Did you know that people have been mugged, hurt, and even killed at rest areas? Moreover, did you know that cars often get broken into at trail heads? These are usually the outcomes of unpreparedness.
Many of us have heard the saying not all who wander are lost, but exploring unknown territory alone can be a recipe for disaster. It is important to be with at least one other person incase help is needed. Getting out of the city usually requires a longer drive than the usual commute which can lead to tired eyes. Many hikers pull over and nap at rest areas but the thing about rest areas is they are fair game. No rules or regulations and usually far from civilization creates a perfect target for tired/helpless people to be hurt or harmed. Lastly, hikers more than often leave their belongings inside their car at the parking lots of the trail heads. The reason people break into cars is because thieves know they wont be back to their vehicle within hours. Also, there is no legitimate reason to bring money up the trail because there is nothing to purchase. The combination of these 3 ideas needs to be avoided in order to be as safe as possible which is why we are here! Be advised. Be free!
