4/14/2017 0 Comments Benefits of a Spring HikeSpring has sprung, and with the weather warming up and beautiful colors blossoming now is the perfect time to start adding in a weekly hike. Not only will a weekly hike benefit yourself health wise, but it provides the opportunity to adventure your local hills when it is both the most beautiful, and most comfortable (before the summer heat). Here are some health benefits and tips from the American Hiking Society on getting outside to enjoy a sunrise hike! (https://volunteervacations.americanhiking.org/5-benefits-sunrise-hike/)
Variety: There is a vast amount of landscape, trails, and weather all within a close proximity of our area. This provides not only a variety of options, but each day brings a different variety to even the same trail than the day before. Such as now, the weather is becoming ideal to get outside and enjoy the outdoors, this brings on an amazing variety of comfortable and beautiful hikes as things begin to green and blossom. Community: In the hills you are surrounded by like-minded people who are just as happy to be enjoying the sunshine a nature as you are. Unlike the dreaded gym conversations, where people are typically looking to be anti-social and get in and back out as soon as possible. While hiking it is just an added element to socialize either with those you are hiking with, or another group taking a break. Whether it is discussing the views and how the hike will be worth it in the end. Fitness: Not everybody gets into the hills for health benefits of fitness alone, but it is an added bonus! Why stare at a wall as you run for two miles when you could turn those two miles into a journey with views like any other. The changing terrines of the hills between going up-or-down, and this provides a total cardio workout for your body. Health: To sum everything up, getting out and hiking is just plain good for your health. It provides opportunity to explore, adventure, and see things that you normally wouldn’t in your everyday life. It gets you away from the city, and a chance to breath fresh air and leave your stresses behind. You get the valuable nutrients such as vitamin D from the sun that many people lack of from spending their time indoors or being gym rats. Not to mention, you can’t really beat the health benefits of tasting a freshly picked berry up in the hills. 4/10/2017 0 Comments Adventure Guide InterviewThis week we interviewed one of our adventure guides - Ceridwen Walsh - about how she was first introduced to the hiking world. Ceridwen began hiking at a very young age, and although she loves it now, she has not always felt that way.
How long have you been hiking? Have you always loved it the way you do now? I started hiking with my father when I was 6 years old! At first, I hated going on hiking/camping trips. When I was young I really enjoyed being around society, so when my dad took us on long camping trips, I honestly dreaded it. What hikes did you go on as a child? I grew up in Vancouver, WA, so we went on a lot of hikes near the Columbia River Gorge. I remember my dad took us on a backpacking trip through the Ho Rain Forest. Our most memorable trip was a day hike to the top of Silver Star Mountain. What makes you passionate about hiking today? I love feeling like I am one with nature. In today's society it is so easy to get caught up in electronics and the hustle bustle of the city, so getting outdoors and experiencing nature is a great balance. 3/29/2017 0 Comments Blog post 9Our first campaign we marketed our new water bottles that won’t break your bank. Our pick of the week was the CamelBak backpack hydration station. CamelBak’s are a hydration pack that lets you carry the essentials when headed out anywhere. The backpack features a easy open/close cap, lightweight fill port, low-profile design, and patented Big bite valve Key pack features: bike tool organizer pocket, reflectivity, safety flasher loop, sternum strap whistle.
The pack sits snug on your back depending on how the straps are adjusted. The sizes range from 10-24 liters. Overall, the water source works well because it provides instant access to water by sitting on your back but wrapping in front of your body without using your hands. 3/27/2017 0 Comments The Ultimate GuideSpring is upon us!

Water bottles and kayaks are trending like crazy in the outdoor world. Similar to the way electronic technology advances, exciting new advances in outdoor technology are always being developed and improved. Two specific items that I am referring to are the Hydro Flask and the Oru Kayak. A hydroflask is essentially a insolated water bottle. With summer approaching, these have became seen more. They range from $20 and up. What makes them so special is they can keep drinks cold for up to 24 hours and hot for 6 hours. They come in a variety of different colors and sizes with the option of purchasing different attachments such as mouth piece changes. Many people like to decorate them with stickers as well. These water bottles become very useful for people exploring the outdoors because from personal use, I have put soup in there and when it gets real chilly outside, it makes for the perfect quench. Another advancement outdoors supplies have made is with kayaks. In particular, the Oru Kayak. This kayak is one that folds down to the size of taller duffle bag almost. This is so cool because unlike other kayaks that don’t fold down, this one does and it provides the opportunity to kayak almost anywhere as long as you are willing to carry it. The prices for them range from $1200-$2400. Moreover, these kayaks are very stable and make it easy for beginners to use them as well, creating an experience without the worry of tipping over. These type of advances show how even there is no signal and you may be lost, your still ahead of the game with your supplies! We understand that life can get busy and stressful, so we want to make hiking accessible and affordable for everyone. For our first campaign we plan to sell PNW Adventure Guides water bottles or rain jackets at a discounted price, especially since the Pacific Northwest experiences such heavy rain in the spring. Good hiking gear is essential, and we want our customers to be able to purchase it at an affordable price.
For our second campaign, we want to implement some sort of discount to motivate our customers with families to get outside. Since this harsh winter is coming to an end and the snow is melting away, many more options for hikes will begin to open up - and we want our customers to get outside! So...from April 3-14 we decided that all children under the age of 12 will hike for free, new members will get 50% any hike, and returning members will get 25% off every hike. Happy spring hiking everyone! 3/10/2017 0 Comments Planning and ReflectionsReflecting back on the first half of our campaign, we did not reach the numbers and feedback that we hoped to see.
There is always room for improvement and with our 2017 campaigns we hope to make big improvements with even bigger results. Overall we plan to use a lot more visuals, We plan to share links to our Instagram, Facebook, and Blog on more social media platforms. We plan to invite more people each day to like our Facebook page. For Instagram, we plan to use hashtags and follow more people in order to increase our followers count and exposure while posting quality content. 3/6/2017 0 Comments Little Known Facts:Did you know that each year people mysteriously disappear throughout national parks in the United States? Did you know that people have been mugged, hurt, and even killed at rest areas? Moreover, did you know that cars often get broken into at trail heads? These are usually the outcomes of unpreparedness.
Many of us have heard the saying not all who wander are lost, but exploring unknown territory alone can be a recipe for disaster. It is important to be with at least one other person incase help is needed. Getting out of the city usually requires a longer drive than the usual commute which can lead to tired eyes. Many hikers pull over and nap at rest areas but the thing about rest areas is they are fair game. No rules or regulations and usually far from civilization creates a perfect target for tired/helpless people to be hurt or harmed. Lastly, hikers more than often leave their belongings inside their car at the parking lots of the trail heads. The reason people break into cars is because thieves know they wont be back to their vehicle within hours. Also, there is no legitimate reason to bring money up the trail because there is nothing to purchase. The combination of these 3 ideas needs to be avoided in order to be as safe as possible which is why we are here! Be advised. Be free! 1.) Little Si Trail- Moderate difficulty- 3.80 miles
2.)Rattlesnake Ledge Trail- Moderate difficulty- 8.90 miles 3.) Mt. Si Trail- Hard- 7.60 miles 4.) Twin Falls Trail- Easy- 3.80 miles 5.) Snoqualmie Falls Trail- Easy- 1.50 miles 6.)
